Do you measure your investment by what is achieved, or what is produced?
Project outputs are important to define and track the progress of your technical delivery. Each one should be driven by well defined, measurable statements of achievement that we call Business Outcomes. They are the backbone of successful project and value delivery.
It seems obvious but the definition and agreement of business outcomes is rarely done. Many parties use the term ‘outcome’ but often they are referring to outputs (such as a report) or physical deliverables (such as an IT platform).
Using a business outcome framework for all investments allows you optimise your portfolio and maximise your return.
